Adidas has leapt into the metaverse head first, recognising the crossover appeal of streetwear brands, the gaming community, and the new and ever-evolving ways of self-expression available in virtual environments. The brand aspires to be a trusted companion for metaverse users and to foster a lively community in next-generation virtual environments. Adidas sold out 30,000 NFTs as part of their “Into the Metaverse” NFT drop to its dedicated supporters and brand lovers. Most NFT project developers will tell you that their tokens’ key value driver is creating a community around them and delivering new experiences, which is the so-called “lightning in a bottle” that Adidas is hoping to capture with its new venture.

Adidas NFT owners will have guaranteed access to claim exclusive physical products at no additional cost beyond their original NFT purchase throughout four phases in 2022, also known as product redemption periods. A Firebird tracksuit, a graphic sweatshirt, and a beanie are among the items offered, which were co-created with brands such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punks Comics, and crypto consultant GMoney. To claim a product or level up to the next phase, NFT holders must visit the Into The Metaverse website, connect their crypto wallet to verify ownership and phase level, and then access the things. Their NFT will change colour as they progress from one step to the next, indicating where they are in the entire process. In the future, the sportswear company plans to continue providing additional experiences and incentives to their NFT community, ensuring that their most devoted consumers receive continued value.

Adidas purchased a Bored Ape named Indigo Hertz for the firm to use as a mascot, and even outfitted it with a bespoke tracksuit, which will be distributed as one of the physical product drops, to ease its transition into the metaverse and its sometimes cliquish communities. The NFT-drop merch is cobranded with the aforementioned trio of collaborators, PUNKS, BAYC, and GMoney, who have all been advising Adidas on how to join the NFT area in a real way.
