Babymetal has announced a collaboration with digital fashion house IBLOCK to manufacture a pair of virtual NFT sneakers to coincide with the announcement of their new chapter.
What do you mean by a pair of what? Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, are non-replaceable digital artworks based on blockchain technology. You can now wear NFTs on your feet. We’re not talking about your real feet, since that would be silly; we’re talking about your virtual feet, which exist within the metaverse’s virtual reality.
Babymetal has also announced that, if our understanding is correct, they will be launching their own metaverse, known as the metalverse, where you will be able to show off your new kicks.
A new “restoration project” dubbed as The Other One has been formed through the metalverse, and it will see the Kawaii metal combo begin on their new chapter, following their revelation last October that saw their “10-year-old legend sealed from the public.” Babymetal intimated that they will “disappear from sight” after their ten-year anniversary in 2021, and now they’re back to further confound and enchant us.
The Babymetal x Airsmoke shoe comes in ten different colorways: Cavalry, Illusion, Coffin, Inverted Mirror Reflection, Monochrome, Smoke, Light And Darkness, Transition, Mirror, and Throne. They’ll be for sale on OpenSea, with an ETH start auction starting on April 7 at 14:00 UTC (BST). The sale will finish at 2:00 p.m. on April 11th (BST).
Babymetal has also produced a trailer to commemorate the start of the next chapter, which reveals: “BABYMETAL’s 10-year-old mythology was sealed from the public on October 10, 2021, a decade after they came upon this planet.
“Fossilized metal spirits have fled the dystopian Earth where turmoil still reigns, and are currently journeying through the Metal Galaxy.” With the introduction of the virtual world METALVERSE, however, a new chapter is set to begin.
“A restoration effort called THE OTHER ONE will be revealed through the METALVERSE, revealing a side of BABYMETAL we never knew existed.
This is BABYMETAL’s “other” story.”
According to 1BLOCK, the virtual shoe market is growing in popularity, especially in North America, where a virtual fashion brand named rtfkt made news after selling over $3.1 million in under seven minutes. Unlike ordinary NFTs, the market isn’t just for collectibles; it’ll soon extend to encompass games, virtual reality, and other multiverse applications.
