Lamborghini is presenting an extraordinary non-fungible token (NFT) collection. The project is a set of digital keys.
Lamborghini deployed a carbon fibre composite study component to the International Space Station in 2019. Now that the material has returned from space, it will be fashioned into five actual space keys. Each space key has a digital twin piece of art that can be accessed by scanning a QR code on the reverse.
The five keys will be auctioned off. For starters, Lamborghini cars start at over $200,000, and the brand is synonymous with luxury and excessive expenditure. So do its fans. The collection’s rarity will undoubtedly push up pricing, and the product’s space component places it in an extremely premium category.
Lamborghini’s latest digital asset development includes NFT PRO. The collection’s date and time, auction house, and artwork were not announced. The sparse information is perhaps meant to generate mystery.
“Innovation is strongly ingrained in the Lamborghini DNA,” stated Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO. We pushed the boundaries two and a half years ago as a top automotive carbon fibre composite materials manufacturer with the collaborative space research effort. Lamborghini is always seeking new vistas, and the metaverse is no exception. The NFT community has been beckoning us, and we are pleased to join them.”
This isn’t Lamborghini’s only NFT initiative, but it is the first since NFTs entered the hype phase. In early 2020, the automaker released digital postal stamps with BITSTAMPS. It also uses blockchain to track historic automobile authenticity.
Meanwhile, Audi launched an NFT collection in China and Porsche has auctioned a car sketch as an NFT.
