The NFTs are Apes, Punks, and now they’re doing music on daytime chat shows.
Kiesza (pronounced ky-zah) played with the MilkyWay Pirates band on the Ellen Degeneres Show today, which is also an NFT compilation.
NFTs are one-of-a-kind tokens that represent asset ownership on a blockchain like Ethereum or Solana. That asset is usually a piece of digital art.
The MilkyWay Pirates NFTs made history today as the first NFT collection to perform music on a major daytime talk show, thanks to QGlobe’s accelerator programme. Based on a science fiction novel Kiesza came up with called “SziFi,” the band members appear digitally as colourful and hairy humanoid-like characters named “Fooboos.”
While the Ellen Show’s fuzzy dancers may appear amusing, Kiesza sees NFTs as an inspiring way for musicians to carve a new path.
“The music industry was designed in such a way that it never looked out for the best interests of musicians.” Musicians have always had to battle for their rights in order to improve their situation. But the NFT space is young, and musicians can step in and make a difference before it’s too late,” Kiesza said in an email to Decrypt.
Didlo, for one, views NFTs as a way for professional dancers and choreographers to claim their techniques and demand royalties from them.
