Warner Bros., the American multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate has announced the launch of non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles for the upcoming film “The Matrix Resurrections” after dropping official Space Jam NFT collectibles. The Matrix NFT program will start on November 30 as Warner Bros. plans to drop 100,000 Matrix Resurrections’ NFTs.
‘You Take the Blue Pill…the Story Ends — You Take the Red Pill…You Stay in Wonderland, and I Show You How Deep the Rabbit Hole Goes’
The entertainment behemoth Warner Bros. is knee-deep in the non-fungible token (NFT) industry these days, after introducing the official Space Jam NFTs with Miami-based firm Nifty’s, Inc. The NFTs were inspired by LeBron James and a cast of classic Looney Tunes characters in the recently released “Space Jam: A New Legacy.”
Warner Bros. has entered the ranks of prominent entertainment corporations such as Fox, Lionsgate, Dolphin, and ViacomCBS. WWE and UFC, two entertainment companies that specialize in sports like professional wrestling and mixed martial arts, have both entered the NFT market.
Now, Warner Bros. is teaming up with Nifty’s to release NFTs in time for the release of “The Matrix Resurrections” on December 22. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the official Matrix NFTs will be avatars of humans inside the Matrix.
On November 30, the avatar NFTs will be issued, but on December 16, owners of the base avatars will be able to pick between a “blue pill” and a “red pill.” If NFT avatar owners take the “blue pill,” they will remain in the Matrix; but, if they take the “red pill,” the NFTs will transform.
Nifty’s and Warner Bros. will continue to deliver “frequent challenges” to the Matrix NFT community, according to the press announcement. The future film, “The Matrix Resurrections,” will be released 18 years after the previous film, “The Matrix Revolutions.” The film will feature original cast members Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity).
